10 Years Ago – Meadowlands Conservation Trust

By Webmaster • on December 9, 2009 • Filed under: Meadowlands Conservation Trust

When the Meadowlands Conservation Trust Act was signed into law 10 years ago, perhaps THE issue in the Meadowlands was the proposal by the Mills Corporation to build a mall, with office towers and a 1,000-room hotel, on part of a 592-acre tract in Carlstadt. While the mall is moving forward as Xanadu, the property in question has been protected by the Trust as the Richard P. Kane Natural Area, 587-acres of open space in the heart of the Meadowlands. Here’s the New York Times article,  Another Tool to Save Meadowlands Open Space, detailing the creation of the Trust and the open space issues facing the Meadowlands 10 years ago.
